I didn’t really think about the Bruins Caps besting the living poop out of each other. That is a good thing about drawing the Islanders. Hopefully that series goes 7 violent games. |

i don't remember the predictions when these teams met in the 2019 playoffs, but I do remember the outcome (Isles sweep)
that Isles team had Lee and Toews, this one doesn't |

Ryan Wilson: Penguins draw favorable matchup and ready to ice best lineup of the year
Penguins draw favorable matchup and ready to ice best lineup of the year - Ryan_Wilson
As a Devs fan, I want the Isles to win (Zajac/Greene/Palmeiri/Schneider all on the squad). As a degenerate gambler, I will be bet the Pens. With Carts scoring at will, this team has 3 very dangerous scoring lines, all while Malkin still hasn't looked himself. If he gets going, even Trotz won't be able to keep them from piling up the goals. |

"Neither team is great defensively...."
Depending on the result of VGK's last game the Isles will either win the Jennings Trophy for least goals allowed or come in 2d place by a hair. But I guess the underlying numbers are more important? |

This is sort of like the Pitt-Nash series. Incredible offence vs incredible defence. If varlomov is out for the start of the series as well that will be terrible for nyi chances. He can def steal some games. |

@Vic from last blog....I know there hasn't been a lot said but that jinx comment was also aimed at me, I was thinking I may of been going to far with some things I said.
Seriously though man, playing the Isles in 1st round again, this blog title and it's contents, Grinder back around a bit more being the only one really vocally against the Isles and what not....major deja vu'y |

Is he injured? Also, Sorokin, while only having played 22 games this season, has been pretty damn awesome, so it's not like the Pens are off the hook if Varlomov is injured. |

IMO the major weakness for the Pens this year has been keeping bodies away from their goalies. They've been much better about this, but if I'm the Isles my game-plan is to get in Jarry's face as much as possible. That IMO is how the Pens would lose this series.
If the Pens can keep clear the crease clear I think it's theirs to lose. |

Hear, hear!
I cant wait to watch that one, same as the Leafs and Habs...I mean thats a crazy 1st round matchup up here in Canada that hasn't happened since 1979. Almost everyone I love or know is either a Leafs or Habs fan, so it'll be fun watching them losing their minds after every game. Caps/B's and Leafs/Habs....just great stress free playoff hockey to be watching. |

If the Pens lose game 1 I could see someone like Jank coming back in the lineup and never leaving again. While being very important to recent regular seasons, Sully has become one of the negative factors the past few postseasons IMO. |

I don't see Jank coming anywhere near this lineup unless there's a sudden rash of injuries again.

Well that too, injuries, and we can probably expect them. I dont think he's that far from the lineup in Sully's head that they'd have to have a "rash of injuries" for him to be inserted back in again.

The players who will be scratched aren't exactly a bunch that gives them a different look if slotted in. If they lose Game 1 it will really depend on why they lost that would lead Sully to make a roster change and the only forward I could ultimately see being scapegoated is Gaudreau.
Maybe you'd see ERod swapped in or if Sully goes full stupid and thinks the Pens need some added grit, then maybe you see Lafferty come in.
Other than that, barring any injuries, I think this roster is ride-or-die.

It works both ways Ryan. Even while acknowledging the Isles are the underdog in this series, trust me, Isles and their fans would much rather play the Penguins than the Capitals. |

Is that why they pulled the goalie in a tie game last night? |

Not to mention there's CURRENTLY more health concerns for you guys than us. I emphasize "currently" because with the rotating door the Pens have, we have no clue what that roster will be for game 2.

He was routinely scratched in favor of Gaudreau and only plays center. He is nowhere near this lineup and thank god for that. |

Ive just lost a bit faith in playoff Sully the past few seasons. Putting Jack Johnson back in the lineup vs the Isles after they lost game 1, which ended up being statistically their best one of the 4, and not taking him out again, when he was clearly harming the on ice product almost every shift, has given me trust issues hahaha

Hahah yeah, a little ptsd. I get it. Thankfully Sully’s list of bad options is much smaller than before. |

That was done with the 2nd round in mind. Not because they would have preferred to play the Caps. |
